Professional Profile

I started my career in 1974, with a multinational, Carter-Wallace Ltd. (now known as Wallace Pharmaceuticals Ltd.). I put in over 13 years in this great company, as a Medical Representative, District Manager and later as Regional Manager (West). In Carter Wallace, my trainer and Sales Manager was the celebrated Mr. P.M. Sapre, who was to later lead Lupin Pharmaceuticals and make Lupin what it is today. 

I also had the advantage of getting trained in sales techniques and products by trainers from the many collaborators of Carter Wallace like Upjohn (USA), Pharmacia (Sweden) {both these companies have now merged with Pfizer Inc.}, and Leo Pharmaceuticals (Denmark). 

During my brief tenure as All India Field Force Manager in Medley Pharmaceuticals Ltd., I learnt the basics of brand management under Dr. R.B. Smarta, who was then their marketing consultant. I was sponsored by Medley to attend the workshop on pharmaceutical brand management at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Bombay. 

In 1988, I joined Sun Pharmaceuticals and set up their product management team. I was responsible for the launch of mega brands like Alzolam, Monotrate, Famocid, Prodep, and Mesacol. The very successful relaunch of Angizem taught me how to relaunch a brand.

During my tenure in Sun Pharma, I was trained in Brand Management by none other then the legendary Prof. Tarun Gupta (almost my personal tutor). Apart from this I was sponsored by Sun Pharma for training in brand management at Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad.

In 1992, I joined Intas Pharmaceuticals as Group Product Manager and was responsible for the launch of Ciza, which made history and transformed Intas into a force to reckon with in the pharmaceutical industry. Nilol, Zen and Lan-30 were the three other strong Brands to be launched during my tenure as Group Product Manager. I was elevated as General Manager (Sales and Marketing) and played a major role in the growth of Intas, which ORG once described as 'the most adorable company'™.

My last assignment as an employee was with Torrent Pharmaceuticals. I initially headed Psycan Divn., their super-specialty division for cardiology, diabetology, neurology and psychiatry products. I was later given the additional responsibility to launch Mind Divn., the super-specialty division for neurology and psychiatry range of products. This was successfully executed and Mind Division became a viable and profitable division in the very first year of its existence.

In 2004, I gave up my comfortable job in Torrent to start my own consultancy services. I am now a training, marketing and brand management consultant for over a dozen companies from India and Nigeria.

Work in Academics

I am attached to Carreograph Institute of Management Studies (CIPM), Kolkata, an affiliate of Vidyasagar University.

I have developed the entire curriculum for their MBA program in pharmaceutical management. I am in their Advisory Committee. Besides, I have also prepared the entire study material for sales management and brand management for Vidyasagar University.

I am also a visiting faculty at Vidyasagar University for MBA in pharmaceutical management.

Besides, I am also a guest faculty in brand management in many business schools and external examiner in brand management for MBA students in two business schools.

I have written the first book on pharma brand management specifically for the Asian Pharma Brand Managers  -  'WHAT THE PHARMA CEO WANTS FROM THE BRAND MANAGER: OVERCOME THE TOUGH CHALLENGES OF PHARMA BRANDING'. Updated Edition III was released in June 2016 

After having sold over a 1000 copies of this book, the second book: 'PHARMA FIRST-LINE LEADER TO CEO: THE ROADMAP TO SUCCESS' has already sold over 3500 

My third book - 'TOTAL COMMUNICATION©: THE DNA OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION' is an overwhelming success.  


Skills as a trainer


Apart from my expertise in Sales Management and Brand Management, I have  trained over 10000 field personnel including medical representatives, 1st, 2nd and 3rd line field managers. I have also trained personnel at corporate offices, like brand managers, marketing managers and general managers.

Brand management consultancy includes preparing marketing strategies execution of strategies, preparation of brand plans and marketing plans; training brand managers; launching new products 

Conducting new product training both on medical aspects and soft skills

I currently have over 15 companies as my clients including companies from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kathmandu, Dhaka and Lagos (Nigeria).

Languages Known 


  • Can fluently read and speak Konkani, English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati.
  • Can write in English, Hindi and Marathi
  • I have a working knowledge of Bengali

Other activities 

 I am a Trustee at Punyatma Prabhakar Sharma Seva Mandal at Mumbai which supports differently-abled orphans and tribal children from those below poverty line. Here are two kids, IQ 0, from Anusuyatmaja Matimand Niwasi Vidyalaya, Igatpuri (Dist. Nasik, Maharashtra, India) being taken to a specialized doctor in treatment of epilepsy, Dr. Rahul Baviskar MD.DM (Neuro), Nasik for treatment of epilepsy.
